Mitt Hangs It Up

CNN has the news. Romney said,
"In this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror. This is not an easy decision. I hate to lose," the former Massachusetts governor said.

"If this were only about me, I'd go on. But it's never been only about me. I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, in this time of war I feel I have to now stand aside for our party and for our country."

So it's John McCain who will be the Republican nominee. Too bad, but he will get my vote. For someone who has been pushing for Fred Thompson since the early summer of 2007, this is not fun. I hope that McCain picks Fred as his running mate. That would be an excellent choice, and it would be one that will allay alot of the fears of us conservatives.

Scott Ott, at Scrappleface, has this to say, in part:
"Bring Fred Thompson on as vice president to serve as the Constitutional conscience of the administration -- an ideological gravitas behemoth -- who can do for President McCain what Dick Cheney has done for President Bush on foreign policy. Behind the scenes, Vice President Thompson offers President McCain private counsel, guided by our Founding Fathers, without drawing attention to himself. Mr. Thompson seems eminently qualified for such a role, eschewing publicity and advancing the cause which impelled him to mount his own White House bid."

I know a lot of you are thinking of sitting the 2008 elections out, angry with the McCain treatment of Republicans in general and conservatives in particular. Some pulled that nonsense in 2006. The American people got stuck with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. How'd that work out for us, eh?

Still unsure? Well click on this link and read. Then come tell me if you can vote for McCain with a little less trepidation.

It made me feel better!

Thanks for the run, Governor Romney! Good luck in the future!

If the Republicans want to be sure to take the Presidency this election, they should recruit Condoleezza Rice to run as VP. I think we'd find the U.S. has no problem with "a" black person or "a" woman running. Just give us a real choice. Something other than Billary or Obama.

Quark: Not bad, though I have problems with her acquiesence to the Palestinians. But why not J.C.Watts?

Angel: You can't always get what you want. So we go with what we have. And that's gonna be McCain. Ahhh, if only Fred had stayed in! Yeesh!

The reason for Romney Defeat can be sum up in a letter I sent to Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin

Here is the excerpt

"I hope you realize now that the true base of the Conservative movement is the Evangelicals, not you phony baloney Bush supporters who hate our troop by your cigar smoking metal midget thinking of supporting waterbroading"

"You talk radio type's who would support a cult leader in a time when we need to fight a religious war (not militarily); show how truly devoid you are of true Conservative principles"

"You need to read all of the posts of the May 15th Prophecy and maybe you will have your eyes open to the truth that is going on in the world today"

McCain is making his speech as I write this. If he keeps the promises he is making, then it's not all bad.

I wrote a post similar to this one yesterday, Benning. We're on the same page. I'm also trying to reason with Republicans who say they will not vote if McCain is the front runner. *sigh* I hope McCain can get them to change their minds. We need to vote Republican! No Republican is as bad as the two Democrats running.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know. None of us can predict the future but I'd rather take a chance with a Republican over a Democrat any day. Well said, Benning.

Back to the holding of the nose and voting for the lesser of two evils...

Well, if we get a Dem Pres, we're likely to get a GOP, conservative Congress in two years.

*sigh* I wonder what Huckabee will do now? Keep angling for the VP slot?

He can run for the Senate for Arkansas. Otherwise he can just go home.

I took one of those alignment surveys 3 times to see who I was most closely aligned...all three of the candidates have pulled out. That kind of deflates my ego!!

Am halfway through the book. Sure am glad your mom didn't strangle her eldest son!

Heheheee! You'll have to tell me what you thought of it, once you finish.

My first choice quit - Fred; my second choice quit - Mitt; and now I'm down to McCain. Woe is us!

It is going to be a wild ride to the finish.

Jack: It should be a memorable election. I expect it to be one of the ugliest ever.
